What is CBD oil?
CBD is short for cannabidiol. It is a cannabinoid found in hemp and known for supporting body and mind in many ways. CBD specifically comes from the flowers and leaves of the hemp plant. (Not to be confused with oil from hemp seeds, which contain negligible levels of cannabinoids.)
Why it works? The human body has a vast network of receptors, called the endocannabinoid system, which helps us maintain overall wellness and keep many of our physical processes moving in the right direction. CBD stimulates the receptors, helping the body complete its efforts to keep us in good health.
The usual CBD formulation is oil, but it is also available as an extract, a vaporised liquid, capsules and gummies. Food, drinks and beauty products are among the many CBD-infused products on the market too.
How do I use CBD oil?
CBD oils are usually made from blend of hemp extract combined with a carrier oil such as olive oil. They come in a dropper style bottle of varying strengths and are best used sublingually, by dropping the oil under your tongue and letting it absorb directly into your bloodstream.
What is the difference between Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum and CBD Isolate?
Full Spectrum CBD are the closest to the plant in its natural form, and include a wide range of cannabinoids from the hemp plant. It also contains a variety of essential vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, protein, chlorophyll, terpenes and flavonoids as well as THC. Broad-spectrum CBD is full-spectrum CBD without any THC (Tetrahydocannabinoid). It offers some of the entourage benefits associated with full-spectrum CBD, but the lack of THC means that this entourage effect is limited. CBD isolate contains only CBD. All the plant matter contained in the hemp plant, including oils, waxes, chlorophyll, and more are removed, offering a finished product that’s CBD and nothing more. While these products offer some benefits of CBD, there is no Entourage Effect available in these.
Why should I use Full Spectrum CBD products over Broad Spectrum or Isolates?
At Savage Cabbage, we strongly advocate the use of full spectrum products wherever possible, as these offer the full therapeutic benefits of the hemp and cannabis plants. Having a full spectrum of compounds in these products supports the Entourage Effect, which improves the efficacy of CBD products due to the synergistic effect between various cannabinoids. Essentially CBD works better with its original plant partners found in its natural source!
